Revisiting Old Projects

One of the most rewarding parts of designing is it encapsulates your ability and your creativity in a moment in time. Revisiting old projects can show you how far you have come as a designer and also help your brain rethink and reformulate an old design.

The Origin

Eve Cider is a brand that I developed for a project in college. I assembled all the details: the flavor profiles, the logo, the color scheme, the brand mission statement, even the nutrition facts. At the time, I was really proud of this.

Five Years Later

By 2019, I had begun to dabble with hand lettering and I thought that this brand could use a more organic, hand-drawn feel. I kept most of the original layout and merely rethought the elements. The hand lettering transformed the previous design from pointy and boxy to a softer and more feminine aesthetic. I also explored what the design would look like on a real bottle and in a real environment.

10 Years Later

The last time I revisited this old project, I felt like I had finally reached the aesthetic that I had been striving for in college. I utilized my skills in hand lettering, layout, hierarchy, and illustration to create a design that is evocative, unique, and memorable. I thought through all of the brand applications and expanded the design to accommodate. But most importantly, I was able to see how far I’ve come as a designer and look forward to where I’ll go next.
