RWJ Barnabas Health wanted to better educate New Jersey residents about the dangers, signs, screening options, and preventative measures related to colon cancer. With something as complex as healthcare and something as serious as cancer, I wanted to make sure to communicate all of the information legibly and accurately. Colon cancer doesn’t really evoke any specific images the way that other cancers do. I therefore had the opportunity to define the aesthetic.
This project also challenged me to display a lot of information in a limited amount of space. Although there was a substantial amount of text, I strove to make it as engaging as possible. Therefore, the layout that I employed is very methodical so that the eye will know where to go next. I broke the information down into digestible chunks that are very clearly defined. The headlines appear in the same spot and the numerical statistics and icons speak with the same visual voice. By coupling the already powerful RWJ Barnabas Health branding with unique and descriptive iconography, an infographic system was born. This is a prime example of how infographic design can instruct, educate, and make a difference.
