One of my favorite things about being a graphic designer is it means you can work in any industry. You can work in entertainment, healthcare, education, automotive – the sky is the limit. Any company that needs to advertise has need of a graphic designer. This also holds true for real estate. As someone who has worked at a real estate design agency as well as in-house at a real estate firm, I have a keen awareness for the industry, the clients, and their needs.
Advertising a space or property
A particularly fun part of real estate design is in playing off the architecture or interior design of a building to enhance a piece of collateral. This might mean it influences the logo design, a pattern, or the overall layout. For example, a piece for an elegant high-end hotel would be designed completely differently from an industrial or office space.
Marketing yourself
Another important aspect of real estate design is making sure the client knows who you are and what you can offer. Bios, case studies, logos, and maps all help to illustrate a person or company’s experience. It takes a skilled designer to lay all of these out in a cohesive and legible way.
Representing a neighborhood
Real estate isn’t just about a property, it’s also about where that property lies. The surrounding neighborhood is just as crucial as the building itself. Each neighborhood has a distinct identity and must be represented accordingly. It is the job of the designer to ground a building in an area and give it context.
There are so many ways that design can be used within the real estate industry. From corporate presentations and proposals, to funky animations and logo design, and more – there are plenty of ways for designers to flex their muscles.
